A dental check-up is one of the most routine things that happen in a dental office. When you come into our Edmonton Dentist at Bridgeview Dental, we take great measures to ensure you remain relaxed and informed throughout your check-up. To protect your oral health, we recommend that you have your teeth cleaned and inspected at least twice a year to reduce tartar buildup and plaque.

When you come in to see us for a dental check-up, you can expect the following procedures:

• A Teeth Cleaning: This includes scraping off build up and flossing around and between every tooth. We will also use a tooth polisher to apply paste and make your teeth shiny and clean.
• An Examination: We check behind and between teeth for issues that include softening of teeth, swelling of gums, mouth sores, and redness. We will also inspect your mouth’s periodontal pockets for any indications of gum disease.
• Dental X-Rays: X-rays allow us to see if there are any issues below your mouth’s surface, this includes the roots below your gum line and your jaw bones. Through X-rays, we are able to assign the appropriate oral care needed.
• Dental Exam: This is where our dentist comes in and looks at the X-rays that were taken. X-rays will alert us to any loss of bone, fractures or abnormalities beneath the gum line. If we discover issues with your jaw alignment, teeth grinding or oral cancer, we will need to fashion a custom treatment plan for you.
• Post-Treatment Advice: After your check-up has been completed, we will advise you about when you need to return for your next appointment and about what procedures might be necessary for your continued oral health.
